【Important】This semester Qualifying Examination

Dear all,

According to the rules from our institute, the PhD Qualifying Examination should be completed before the end of third academic year after enrollment, and students should complete the application process within one month at the beginning of every semester.

The process flowchart:

Choose your adviser professor and constitute the thesis advisory committee.

Submit a completed application form, and two non-thesis topics along with the main research project (all with abstracts).

The institute director and deputy directors will decide a topic for your non-thesis proposal, and also recommend one full-time tenured faculty from the Institute of Medical Sciences as your Qualifying Examination Committee member.

Your thesis advisory committee recommends two to four members for your Qualifying Examination Committee (at least one third of the members should be the external member of the Tzu Chi University).

Confirm the date for your Qualifying Examination.

Submit your non-thesis proposal two weeks before the Qualifying Examination (an electronic copy and 3 printed copies).

The Annual Symposium of Tzu Chi Academy 2017
Student Poster Competition

The 7th Annual Symposium of Tzu Chi Academy will be held on the 6th of September, 2017. The Student Poster Competition honors the best student posters presented at the conference. This event is judged by the faculty from the Institute of Medical Sciences.

The prizes (see the table below) will be awarded to the best posters judged based on the content of the poster, the quality of the visual display of information on the poster, and the ability of the student to successfully and succinctly present the subject matter in the poster. Poster presenters must be current students from the Institute of Medical Sciences.

Guidelines for Poster Preparation:
1. The entire poster must be mounted on a 80 cm´ 110 cm foam-core board. The poster does not necessarily have to fill the entire working area.
2. The board must be oriented in the “portrait" position (long dimension is vertical).
3. Use a minimum font size of 24 points for text.
4. The posters will remain up the full day. Poster presenters should set up the posters in the evening (after 4: 00 p.m.) one day before the conference, and take them off right after the end of the conference. Please be sure to set up your poster on the appropriate poster board.

Steering Committee established

According to the Ph.D. program of the Institute of Medical Sciences, the Steering Committee (SC) should be formed within three months after enrollment. The SC is responsible for counsel of the course progression, discussion of research and thesis, and preparation of Ph.D. candidate examination of the students. The SC will be dismissed after the Thesis Advisory Committee is formed. Application form before December 9 will be given to institute office.
